OUR HISTORY
Established 1976
Dunvegan was the home on the Isle of Skye to the famous MacCrimmon piping family.
Dunvegan Pipes and Tartans was founded By Chris Mulinder in 1976 and originally started out as a Bagpipe teaching school.
Once the establishment got into full swing, the pressure of the times changed the situation from teaching bagpipes full time, to also incorporate the supply of bagpipes, and the Scottish equipment that went with it.
This led to the changing of the shop name to Dunvegan Pipes and Tartans.
In 2019, the shop was taken over by Steve Johnston, a bagpipe player and a trained upholsterer who learned the art of kilt making. The shop now has 2 locations in Cape Town and Johannesburg, where they continue to serve the Scottish community and promote Scottish culture with pride and passion.
In full Circle, Chris retained the previous shop premises and converted it back into a Bagpipe school where he continues to teach Bagpipes to this day . . . .
